Seminar on Inclusive Education for Special Children

Amritsar, Dec. 2 (Punjab Post Bureau) – DAV Public School Lawrence Road and Global Institute for Childhood Disability organised a seminar on ‘Inclusive Education for Special Children’ to Commemorate the ‘World Disability Day’ at Urvi Auditorium. It was presided over by Mr. Arun Khanna the Chairman of Global Institute for Childhood Disability. Er. Shawait Malik Member Parliament Rajya Sabha was the Chief Guest. Other important dignitaries present were Mr.Bakshi Ram Arora, Ex. Mayor Ex. Chairman Improvement Trust, Prof. Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice Chancellor G.N.D.U and Past District governor, Mr. M.M Jairath. The seminar was attended by the Principals of various schools, teachers, parents and the students.

The main motive of the seminar was to improve the understanding of the people towards children with disability issue as well as get together to support them to improve their self esteem.The speakers of the day were Dr. Neera Sharma Principal DAV Public School Lawrence Road Mrs. Prerna Khanna, Special Education in Spring Dale School  and Mrs. Nisha Tuteja faculty member of DAV  Public School. These speakers highlighted about various aspects and benefits of Inclusive Education. They emphasised that such children demand more of time and patience. They require specialized instructional strategies in  a structured environment that support and enhance their learning potential. The speakers stressed that  inclusive education aims at empowering special  children, irrespective of their strength and weaknesses. It  provides them with the best of education to carve a niche for themselves in society.

Some of the parents also shared their views, experiences and ideas about inclusive education. They emphasised that such children should be provided with physical and emotional comfort. They need love encouragement and support and let each child know that we believe in him or her. Such positive enforcement can help ensure that they emerge with a strong sense of self worth, confidence and determination .

The Seminar proved to be very interesting effective and enriching. The audience understood  about what inclusive education is and what it looks like in practice. Regional Director Punjab Zone – A Dr. Neelam Kamra and Manager of the school Dr. Rajesh Kumar appreciated the efforts of the school for holding such seminars. They said that all special children are capable of success. Dr. Neera Sharma Principal of the school emphasised that the special children should be given equal opportunities to learn and participate.They should be involved in the society in each facet of life such as social, cultural and economic.
