Amritsar, Apr. 6 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Gurjeet Singh Aujla MP conducted a meeting with Mr. Demetrios A. Theophylactou High Commissioner of Cyprus to India in New Delhi regarding investment, tourism and cultural exchange between Punjab and Cyprus. Aujla invited him to visit Amritsar to explore more on proposal of bilateral interests. In A press release Aujla said that Mr. Demetrios agreed and shall visit Amritsar on 7th of April. He said that Cyprus has an open, free-market, service-based economy with some light manufacturing. The Cypriots are among the most prosperous people in the Mediterranean region. Internationally, Cyprus promotes its geographical location as a “bridge” between West and East, along with its educated English-speaking population, moderate local costs, good airline connections, and telecommunications. The community of Indians in Cyprus includes Indian expatriates in Cyprus, as well as Cypriot citizens of Indian origin or descent. Even though Cyprus has a much smaller community of Indians compared to other western countries, the community boasts over 2000 Indians primarily in the field of ICT (Information, Communication, and Technology) and shipping industry.
