Vice Chancellor interacts with teachers at GNDU
Amritsar, May 19 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Prof. Talat Ahmad Vice-Chancellor Jamia Millia Islamia University New Delhi while presiding over the inaugural session of a programme in Guru Nanak Dev University emphasized the necessity of such Programmes for the teachers of higher education before they take up this profession. He said that the today’s teaching fraternity needs to pull their socks up to meet the growing aspirations of the younger generation as they are in possession of glut of information on any discipline. He said that we can confine to the boundaries of our particular discipline at our own peril. On the contrary, dire need of the hour is to come out of the self created boundaries of one’s disciplines and to build bridges with the others, he added.
Stressing on the periodical revision of the curricula, he opined that it needs to be done in order to enable the students to compete in the global world of today. He concluded his address by lauding this initiative of the MHRD, which, he opined, would go a long way in improving the quality of higher education in the country.
A maiden One-Month “Induction Training Programme for Newly Recruited Faculty” was inaugurated at the Faculty Development Centre (UGC- Human Resource Development Centre) of Guru Nanak Dev University. 30 teachers from a wide spectrum of disciplines from Punjab and its neighbouring states are participating.
Prof. Amit Kauts, Head, Deptt. of Education and the Coordinator of the Programme ruled that the outcome is not in consonance with the huge amount of budgetary outlay. The learning outcome of such programmes also needs to be evaluated, he opined. Prof. Jatinder Singh, Director spoke about the aims and objectives of this Programme, which is being conducted under the aegis of Faculty Development Centre. Earlier the Chief Guest was accorded a sapling welcome by Prof. Jatinder Singh, Prof. Amit Kauts and Dr. Mohan Kumar.
