CKD Principal honoured with prestigious National Florence Nightingale Award

Amritsar, May 19 (Punjab Post Bureau) – CKD International Nursing College Principal Dr. Darshan Kaur Sohi is PPN1905201824bestowed with the rare honour i.e National Florence Nightingale Award by the President of India Sh.  Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi on the occasion of International Nurses Day i.e 12th May. It is the highest honor of individual nursing achievement to recognize the exemplary service or a pioneering spirit in the areas of public health or nursing education.   

Mrs. Sohi is one among 35 candidates to be selected from all over India for the coveted national award, but the only one from Punjab to be honored with this decoration which has eluded Punjab for last four years. . Mrs Sohi having the experience of 37 years in Govt. as well as private Nursing Institutes was selected as the recipient of the award for her outstanding and pioneering selfless services in the field of Nursing Education. She has devoted most of her spare time running a clinic and providing free health services for rural people. She has been participating actively along with staff and students of CKD International Nursing College in all National Health Programs i.e pulse polio program, Aids Awareness, female feticide, leprosy control, Nutritional program and MR Vaccine campaign etc. She has been receiving appreciation awards from Civil surgeon, Amritsar for many years..She has authored three books and has 15 journal publications to her credit.

At Award ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhawan, President Sh. Ram Nath Kovind While terming the nursing community as a “True Nation Builder”, stated that the nursing community serves people with devotion and commitment and entire nation is grateful for this. He also stressed on the need for developing quality health care and strengthening the nursing sector.

Mrs. Sohi felt honoured and humbled to receive this recognition and said that younger generation is the key to a better nursing industry in the future and she wants to initiate change in the nursing profession by instilling pride of being a nurse in students. 

CKD President Dr. Santokh Singh while extending congratulations to Mrs Sohi in CKD Head office hoped that prestigious national award received by Mrs. Sohi would surely send a powerful message to inspire other nurses for rendering pioneering services in the healthcare industry. Honorary Secy Narinder Singh Khurana also expressed pleasure that  one of the CKD principal is awarded with the highest rare honour.
