New Delhi, July 26 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Member of Parliament from Amritsar Gurjeet Singh Aujla conducted a PPN2607201809brief meeting with Union Minister for Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu regarding various cargo and passenger issues faced by the aviation industry in Amritsar.

Aujla informed that he submitted memorandums and demand letters to the minister and is hopeful that Amritsar Airport gets a fair cut of new flights. He said the most important of the issues discussed was about the un-commissioned cold storage at Amritsar Airport. He said that Amritsar has great potential for cargo/food item exports, but due to lack of wide bodies planes arriving and departing from Amritsar Airport all the cargo infrastructure is left abandoned. He said that the minister showed keen interest in this regard.

Aujla informed that issue of designating Amritsar as a point of call for UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi), Oman, Turkey, Germany, Netherlands based carriers was discussed so that International airline carriers like Emirates, Etihad, Fly Dubai Air Arabia, Oman Air, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, KLM and others may fly direct to the holy city of Amritsar.

Aujla further said that BOM-ATQ-NDC-ATQ-BOM has been receiving tremendous response since its beginning i.e. 23 December 2017. Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji Airport, Nanded (Maharashtra) is owned by Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation. At present it is without any Approach Lighting system (ALS) whereas Amritsar Airport has a CAT III B ALS. During the raining season aircrafts fail to land at Nanded due to lack of ALS support as a result most of the arrivals and departures are cancelled. In order to provide better connectivity and uninterrupted service between the two temporal seats of Sikhs the minister was requested to motivate the management to install the required system.

Aujla said that the minister has assured to consider the demands and provide a boost to the tourism and aviation industry of Amritsar.
