Workshop to combat fake news held at DAV Public School

Amritsar, August 22 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A workshop to combat fake news and spread awareness among the youth about the same was held at DAV Public School Lawrence Road. The workshop was organised by BBC Punjabi. The BBC team comprising Ms.Vandana, TV Editor, Ms Khushboo, Senior Broadcast Journalist, Mr. Arvind Chhabra, Field Reporter and Mr. Gulshan Kumar, Shoot Edit conducted the workshop. Under this initiative, BBC took the responsibility to help young people identify real news and filter out fake or false information.

 This interactive workshop was attended by 30 students of classes VIII to XII of the school. These days students are well–informed but they must know the checklist of five ‘wh’ words i.e when, where, who , what, why and how before forwarding any news or message . This was the cruz of the workshop. Many recent viral stories and news were shared during the workshop which ultimately were found fake later on. Thus to be on the safe side, BBC provided with a few authentic sites, like ‘Parliament of India’ to verify the news along with many other sites.Through many activities, discussions and debates, the repercussion of a fake news on society was also discussed. How such news can mar the harmony of a society was the real issue.

The well organised workshop ended on a positive note where in students took  a vow to be  the messengers of BBC and take the initiative forward. The officials from BBC praised the students for their discipline, presence of mind, wit, versatility and willingness to learn.

Regional Officer Punjab Zone–A Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra and the Manager of the school  Dr. Rajesh Kumar Principal DAV College appreciated the school for organising such a thoughtful workshop.
