Amritsar, March 2 (Punjab Post Bureau) – PG Department of Economics, DAV College Amritsar organized a guest
lecture on the topic “Structural Changes and Role of service sector in India”. This Seminar was organized under supervision of Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar and Head Department of Economics Prof Anita Sekri.
Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Head Punjab School of Economics, GNDU was the key note speaker during the event. Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar and Prof Anita Sekri gave floral welcome to the guest and welcomed her to the event.
While speaking on occasion, Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar focused on the role of the services sector on the growth of the Indian economy. He stressed that growth in the services sector will support growth in the agricultural and industrial sectors. He further added that such Seminars are quite helpful for students to understand concepts of subjects deeply.
Dr. Kuldeep Kaur talked on the topic “Structural Changes and Role of service sector in India”. While briefing the students, she gave insight as to how Indian economy has shifted from inward looking strategy to outward looking. She stated that economic growth in post independent India has seen several turns and twists. Service sector never got impetus through planning but turned out to be a byproduct and yet contributes a major share in gross value added of the economy with significant forward and backward linkages. This has led to generation of socio economic problems like unemployment, poverty etc.
In the concluding session vote of thanks was given by Prof. Ashma Walia. She thanked the guests as well as the organizing committee for all their efforts. Prof. Kamal Kishore, Prof Ritu Arora, Prof R.K Nayyar, Prof. G.S Sekhon, Prof. Vikram Chaudary, Prof. Gagandeep Raizada, Prof. Anjana Khanna, Prof. Manish Kapoor, Prof. Sanjay Mahajan and Prof Gagandeep Singh were also present on the occasion.
