Dharna by residents of Mahal ended after Aujla gets written assurance of action from Police

Amritsar 9 Sept. (Punjab Post Bureau) – An auto rickshaw driver from Mahal village of Attari Constituency was repeatedly run over last night by a car driven by the tenants of Tarsem Singh who runs a PG (paying guest hostel) in Mahal village. As per the residents of Mahal the tenants are students and usually create hullabaloo in the vicinity. Aastha and other residents has objected to this many times. Last night the situation gone worsened and the alleged boys crushed Aastha with a car, resulting the death of Astha . The family of Aastha Singh alongwith the residents of Mahal today blocked the bypass at Mahal Chowk keeping Aastha’s body in the intersection and demanded for police’ action in this matter and registration of an FIR under 302 of IPC. Police had already took this matter under 304. DCC(R) president Gurjeet Singh Aujla was informed about this dharna by the Congress workers of the area and he immediately joined the dharna. As the pressure mounted the police discussed this matter with the higher officials and agreed with the family members to take this matter under 302 IPC.

The family wanted immediate arrest of all the culprits and were not ready to end the dharna. Upon this Aujla negotiated with the police and was successful in securing a written assurance from the police that action will be taken within 2 days time. The family was assured by Aujla that police will do as agreed else Congress will join the family to stage a dharna at the same intersection. The dharna was ended by the family and the body was taken for cremation. The present includes Tarsem Singh DC, Dharampal Laddi, Ajay Kumar Pappu, Ram Chand, Ashwani kumar, sukha singh, baldev singh tekhedar, Manga Mahal, Baba Kuldeep Singh, Happy president auto union and Karanbir Singh.
