Amritsar, Sept 5 (Punjab Post Bureau) – On the second day of CBSE’s cleanliness drive DAV Public School Lawrence Road introduced ‘Tree Ganesha’ ( Bel Patra Ganesha) to the students with the aim to spread awareness to tackle air pollution and water pollution. Lord Ganesha symbolises auspicious new beginnings, so its high time that we too switch to eco–friendly Lord Ganesha. In doing so, we will be preserving mother earth and will be blessed by Lord Ganesha Himself.
Dr. Resham Sharma, from Science faculty informed the students about this eco – friendly initiative. The idols of Lord Ganesha, which people install at their homes and worship for 10 days are immersed in water on the last day. These idols are made of non – biodegradable Plaster of Paris that pollutes water. These eco – friendly idols are made from red soil and the base of the idols is stuffed with organic fertiliser and seeds. At the end of the ten day festival, the idol is immersed in a plant pot and is watered daily. Within a span of eight to ten days, the idols dissolve and the seeds germinate into plants over time.
Thus students were encouraged to take eco–friendly steps to complete the Swachhata mission because pollution free environment can only be swachh environment.
While addressing the students the Principal of the school Dr.Neera Sharma told the students that it was not correct to immerse then on – biodegradable idols in water because they will not only pollute the water and pose danger to the acquatic life but also it was disrespectful as the idols will sink and be touched by feet of the divers and swimmers. She was happy to introduce eco – friendly idol of Lord Ganesha to the students and wished health and prosperity for everyone.
Regional Officer Punjab Zone–A Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra and the Manager of the school, Dr. Rajesh Kumar Principal DAV College Amritsar appreciated the efforts of the school on taking such an initiative and encouraging students to choose eco–friendly ways.
