Teachers of GND University and affiliated colleges held a rally

Amritsar, Oct 24 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The teachers of Guru Nanak Dev University and affiliated colleges held a rally on 24^th October I front of the main gate of the University under the aegis of Guru Nanak Dev University Teachers’ Association (GNDUTA) and Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU).

            The rally was attended by large number of teachers of the University and Colleges and was addressed by leaders of both the associations namely Dr. Davinder Singh (President, GNDUTA), Dr. Sukhdev Singh Randhawa (General Secretary, PCCTU), Dr. N.P.S. Saini, Dr.Tarsem Singh (Area Secretary, GNDU) and Dr. B. B. Yadav (District President, Amritsar) Dr. VinaySofat Ex General Secretary of PCCTU. Dr. Gurdas Singh Sekhon President DAV College Amritsar paid a vote of thanx for the teachers who participanted in the rally.

       There was a general feeling of unjust and authoritarian attitude of the Vice-chancellor towards the teaching community. All the speakers expressed deep anger and anguish that Vice-chancellor is trying to impose arbitrary conditions for promotion of teachers as associate professor. The other demands raised by the speakers included to fill the posts of Teachers and Principals in Colleges on regular basis, counting of previous service, implementation of provisions of university calendar, immediate release of increments, to stop the victimization of teachers, No extension to the principals beyond 60 years.

        It was unanimously decided by the leaders of GNDUTA and PCCTU that University and College Teachers shall intensify their struggle in the near future and adopt all the possible means of protest and for this purpose a Joint Action Committee has been constituted. The Joint Action Committee shall seek personal hearing of the Honorable Chief Minister to apprise him of the state of affairs in the University and Colleges affiliated to the University and seek his intervention in this matter.  The rally was ended with an enthusiastic call for unity and fight for justice.
