New Delhi, October 01, 2014: Paying homage to Mahatama Gandhi and his favourite tenets – ‘Cleanliness is next to godliness’, the Ministry of Human Resource Development in association with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to launch the “Swachh Bharat Swachh Vidyalaya Campaign” tomorrow. As part of the campaign, keeping in mind the wide reach of CBSE, the Ministry launched the Swachh Vidyalaya Campaign from September 25, 2014 upto October 31, 2014 for schools affiliated to CBSE. “Swachh Vidyalaya Campaign” by the Ministry, is one of the many joint initiatives where government and Board have come together to educate students on the essential habits of daily hygiene and role of cleanliness in their lives.

To inculcate sensibility among children regarding daily hygiene and basic sense of cleanliness, the Board has asked affiliated schools to organize varied activities and has encouraged students, parents, teachers as well as the school administration to participate. The activities include essay writing, writing and painting competitions, nukkad nataks, debate competitions etc.  Few things which need to be adopted by every school during this period are cleaning up of classrooms, libraries laboratories, auditoriums, play grounds etc. School authorities may also encourage students to speak few lines on cleanliness when teachings of Mahatama Gandhi can be discussed in depth.  During this period, schools are also expected to update their sanitation status online at www.schoolsanitation.com. Schools will be felicitated as per their sanitation ratings with the highest scoring schools with Green rating will get a cash award of Rs. 1,00,000.

Adding on, CBSE Chairman, Shri Vineet Joshi said, “We need to inculcate the spirit of hygiene, cleanliness and aversion to unhygienic conditions in all our children from the very initial years of their schooling, so that every child in the country appreciates the value of good, clean and hygienic living. CBSE awaits to hearing of every school’s commitment for this national endeavour. Schooling can never be accomplished if students are not inculcated with the habit of hygiene or cleanliness. The motive of this campaign is to make students realise that the hygienic way of living is the best way to lead to a fully satisfying life.”

Schools are to continue the Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan and sanitation ratings will go beyond October 31, 2014 right upto August 15, 2015 where film shows, model activities on hygiene, periodic essay/painting and other competitions, role plays etc will be organized to spread the message of Swachh Bharat Swachh Vidyalaya.  Some entries of the Swachch Vidyalaya Abhiyan will be included in the next Expression Series opening which will be open from October 02 to October 15, 2014.
