Kapurthala, September 17 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Deputy Commissioner Deepti Uppal has said that the high death rate in the district due to covid is a matter of concern and people must understand the gravity of the situation.
Addressing the people the Deputy commissioner said that ” it was noticed after study of many cases that people approached the doctor on the last stage when the infection affected their lungs badly which is main reason behind the deaths due to the fall of oxygen level” .
Talking about the deaths , Deputy commissioner said that the district witnessed 106 deaths which is highest across the district with nearly 5 %. She said that the out of total 106 deaths 80% belongs to the old age group and co morbidity conditions which clearly reflectes that people are putting the lifes of aged persons at high risk by not approaching the health facilities at earlier stage.
Advocating increasing the testing capacity the deputy commissioner said that it was increased to 950 to 1000 per day and SDMs and SMOs have been asked to prepare more mobile teams for testing in rural areas.
She also urged the patients in home isolation that they must respond to the phone calls made by the home isolation control unit as they are guiding the patients on pulse rate, oxygen level etc. Presently 476 patients are under home isolation in the district which are monitored by the home isolation control unit at DAC Kapurthala.
