Amritsar, October 22 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Khalsa College Amritsar today received the mandatory recognition for 
its B.Sc. (Agriculture) course from newly-carved Punjab State Council for Agriculture Education (PSCAE), Government of Punjab, Chandigarh. In a communiqué, the authorities from the PSCAE stated that the historic College fulfills all the stipulated conditions laid down by the Council for its four year degree course.
PSCAE was formed following the enactment of Agriculture Act-2017 to maintain the standard of agriculture education in Punjab. The Council began its massive exercise last year seeking reports from the different colleges and universities of Punjab, giving them sufficient time to fulfill the basic parameters required for agriculture education.
“The KCA satisfactorily responded with proofs regarding queries raised by Inspection Committee of the Council. The Inspection Committee held many regular meetings and was satisfied that all the strict conditions were being implemented as per their rules and requirements under their microscopic investigations. Now, the Council had taken its final decision and given the certification to the Department of Agriculture of the College today”, said Dr. Mehal Singh, Principal KCA.
Many Universities along with Colleges of Punjab Technical University (PTU) Jalandhar were included in the list of those Colleges which were unable to fulfill the basic requirements of agriculture education in the very first list. Punjab Agriculture Council went ahead and adopted the set teaching parameters of Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), New Delhi and according to these parameters, conditions like ownership of 25 acre of land to teach a group of 60 students for the award of degree in B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons), required infrastructure of laboratories, UGC qualified teachers for each subject etc., were imposed on the Colleges.
“To fulfill all these strict conditions was not within the capacity of many colleges. The students of Agriculture Department in Khalsa College Amritsar have been assigned 50 acres of land for practical and 60 more acres of land for Nursery, Horticulture and Organic farming”, said Dr. Mehal Singh adding that KCA is awarding degrees in B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons.) since 1931 and various other streams of M.Sc. (Agriculture) since 1961.
“In undivided Punjab (before the partition of the country in 1947) Khalsa College Amritsar was the only renowned college of its time which was imparting education in the field of Agriculture. The Agriculture Department of this College has a major contribution in ushering Green Revolution in Punjab. Due to the relentless efforts of the agriculture department, there is a lot of improvement in the conditions and directions of farming profession in Punjab”, said Dr. Mehal Singh.
President of Khalsa College Governing Council Satyajit Singh Majithia and Honourary Secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina and all other office bearers, members of Management meanwhile congratulated Principal and staff of the College regarding this achievement.
