Amritsar, Decmeber 2 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Department of History and Centre on Studies in Sri Guru Granth
Sahib, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar on the initiative of Punjab Government and under the guidance of Prof. Jaspal Singh Vice-Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University organised International Webinar on the 551st Parkash Purb of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji on 27.11.2020. Prof. Amandeep Bal Head Department of History introduced the theme of the Webinar “ Sri Guru Nanak Dev JI: Harbinger of Interfaith Understanding and Co-existence” . On the 551th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, she said it was the right opportunity for the mankind to acknowledge its debt to its great benefactor and teacher who travelled to distant lands to give his message of peace, love and religious tolerance and was the harbinger of interfaith understanding and co-existence. The Seminar was addressed by three renowned scholars on Sikh Studies, Prof. Gurinder Singh Mann Former Professor University of California, Santa Barbara USA said we should try to see Guru Nanak Dev Ji as he saw himself as ‘Baba’. Message of Guru Nanak was unique and he laid emphasis on truthful living and love for one and all. Prof. Jagbir Singh, former Professor, University of Delhi said core of every religion is spiritualism and every religion has something good in it. Intolerance has led to destruction of humanity. S. Chiranjiv Singh, Former ambassador to UNESCO said that a large number of programmes are arranged for Interfaith understanding, but the need of the hour is to walk on the path of love and compassion for others shown by Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Prof. Amarjit Singh, Director for Center on Studies in Guru Granth Sahib took up the questions of the audience and also thanked the Punjab Government and Vice-Chancellor for the encouragement to hold such webinars. He also thanked the speakers and others guests in the Webinar.
