Ponds water will be used for irrigation and fishery
Kapurthala, April 9 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Rana Gurjit Singh, MLA Kapurthala today reviewed the ongoing work of renovation of ponds under the pilot project. It may be recalled that Kapurthala constituency was selected by the Punjab government for the use of pond water for irrigation in Kapurthala constituency under which a special grant of Rs. 7.37 crore was released.
MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh today visited the ongoing works at village Madhojhanda at a cost of Rs 21.56 lakh, Badial at Rs 16.51 lakh, Sundarwal at Rs 23.18 lakh, Nurpur Dona at Rs 23.38 lakh and at Phulewal at a cost of Rs 18 lakh.
During his visit to various villages, he appealed to the village sarpanches and villagers to act as watchdogs for timely completion of pond related works and maintaining the quality of work.
He said that in the villages of Kapurthala constituency ponds would be developed under Thapar model and water would be used for irrigation.
In addition, the re-lining of ponds would give a boost to the fish farming business. Proper use of pond water will not only prevent contamination of ground water but will also help in preventing the spread of diseases due to contamination,he added.
Rana Gurjeet Singh asked the officials of the Panchayat Department to pay special attention to the construction of sewerage, drinking water, concrete streets and parks in the villages under the ‘Smart Village’ scheme as soon as possible to provide facilities in villages as well as in cities will help in raising the living standards of the people.
