Her new book `Kiran Bedi: Making of the Top Cop’ released
Amritsar, Nov. 19 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Batting for more liberty and freedom for girls, former DGP and first women IPS officer of India, Kiran Bedi today exhorted one and all over women safety which she said is the `collective responsibility’ of the society. She said there is need to change the mind-set of the people and the government and administration then can complement efforts to ensure that women are safe in India.
Addressing huge gathering of girl students at Khalsa College for Women (KCW) where she arrived for releasing of her new book `Kiran Bedi: Making of the Top Cop’, she said no society can progress unless it respect its women. She said the crime against women had been rising in every state and added that `good education’ must emanate from families and educational institutions to sensitize the people.
Bedi who had been a strong exponent of the Aam Adami Party earlier, however praised four month old Narendra Modi government. “No doubt there is some change and the government seems working. Earlier the situation was different when the government seemed no existing at all’’, said she while talking to the media persons on the side of the function organized to launch the book.
On Delhi’s elections, she said she had no wish so far to contest and will vote for the party which will ensure stable government which would work in close coordination of Centre. She was earlier welcomed and termed as `Daughter of Punjab’ who is role model for women of the country by Khalsa College Governing Council honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina.
Chhina said students must read her book which is pictorial presentation of her life. He recalled the days in 1970s when Kiran Bedi entered into professional life and started teaching as Lecturer at Khalsa College for Women. On this Bedi said she would love to come again as a Teacher in the institution. “I want to teach you the Political Science and International Relations’’, said Bedi to the huge applauds of the students.
KCW Principal Dr.Sukhbir Kaur Mahal said that they would love to organize lectures of Bedi in the College where she started her career before joining IPS. Dr.Mahal said that the Bedi’s book was an inspirational and motivational description through pictures of her life. “She (Bedi) is the face of woman emancipation’’, said Dr.Mahal. Chhina also asked the students to inculcate amongst them the discipline and confidence of the kind of Bedi to achieve big in life.
