SGPC President writes letter to Union MEA Dr. Jaishankar
Amritsar, June 27 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh has written a letter to Union Minister of External Affairs (MEA) Dr. Jaishankar, urging him to consider and facilitate the visit of a high-powered delegation of SGPC to visit Afghanistan.
The SGPC intends to send this delegation to Afghanistan in July 2022 to ascertain the situation of Sikhs and to hold talks with local government officials there, about the safety of Afghan Sikhs and Hindus.
Harjinder Singh said that the Sikhs living in Afghanistan are worried due to the current situation there, so the Sikh body, SGPC wants to visit there to ascertain their problems. He said that it is equally important to ascertain the condition of historical places in Afghanistan besides their required Kar Sewa (voluntary service) and maintenance.
SGPC President said that the SGPC delegation wanted to meet not only the Sikh leaders of Afghanistan but also the government officials there to ensure the safety of the Sikhs living there.
Harjinder Singh said that the SGPC also wanted to take care of the Sikh heritage and shrines in Afghanistan and is ready to send aid for the people affected due to the recent earthquake there.
Harjinder Singh said that although the Government of India has made great efforts to bring Afghan Sikhs and Hindus to India in times of crisis, but as a responsible Sikh body, the SGPC has a duty to help Sikhs in Afghanistan and take care of Sikh shrines there.
He said that if the Government of India makes arrangements soon, the SGPC delegation is ready to visit Afghanistan in July month.
