National Lok Adalat organized at District Headquarter Amritsar and Teh. Ajnala & Baba Bakala

16204 cases disposed off and Rs.20,29,49,657 awarded as compensation

Amritsar, Dec. 6 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Under the active guidance of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Tirath Singh Thakur, Judge Supreme Court of India-cum-Executive Chairman, National Legal Services Authority and Hon’ble Mr. Justice S.S.Saron, Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court-cum-Executive Chairman, Punjab Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh a National Lok Adalat was organized today at District Headquarter Amritsar as well as Ajnala and Baba Bakala.

                   Hon’ble Mr. Justice S.S.Saron, Judge, High Court of Punjab and Haryana-cum-Executive Chairman, Punjab Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh specially come all the way from Chandigarh in order to monitor the proceedings of Lok Adalat at District Court Complex, Amritsar.

In total 43benches were constituted for holding this National Lok Adalat at Amritsar, Ajnala and Baba Bakala. These benches were constituted at Judicial Courts, Revenue Courts, Municipal Corporation Office, Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services).

As part of this National Lok Adalat, Sh.Yukti Goyal, Chief Judicial Magistrate also held a Camp Court at Central Jail, Amritsar, where 60 cases of accused persons in custody were taken up and 47 were disposed of at the spot. These 47 persons got benefitted from this National Lok Adalat and shall now be released from Central Jail, Amritsar.

A total number of 27160 Cases approximately were taken up for decision in this National Lok Adalat by way of amicable settlement, out of which 16204 approximately cases were disposed of and an amount of Rs.20,29,49,657 has been awarded/settled by way of compensation etc. All type of cases were taken up for decision in this National Lok Adalat through amicable settlement.

Sh.Gurbir Singh, Learned District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar desired that general public should avail maximum benefit of this Lok Adalat and also said that the prime objective of the Lok Adalats is to settle the disputes amicably through compromise so as to save the time and money of the parties and to reduce personal enmity between them. The decisions are taken in the Lok Adalats through compromise and in case of settlement of cases in the Lok Adalat the entire court fee is refunded and the decision of Lok Adalat is final. Any person who desires that his case should be taken up in the Lok Adalat can file an application in the Court concerned or regarding the cases of Amritsar District in the office of Arun Kumar Aggarwal, Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar at Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre, Amritsar.
