Amritsar, Dec. 7 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Students of Delhi Public School, traced the lives of Sita from epic ‘Ramayan’ and Drupadi from Epic ‘Mahabharta’ in a moving dance-drama presentation, depicting the lives of the two protagonists that give a peep into the way women were treated in society then and laid a question mark on treatment of women in the present era.
“The identity of the Indian woman has not changed in all these years. She is still treated shabbily by family and society alike and countless such instances can be quoted” said the school principal while addressing the students on ‘Scholar badge ceremony’ held at school premises today.
“Woman has to break the ancient shackles and make her own place in society; she should be able to rise to meet new age challenges instead of getting cowed down by societal pressures. Thence will emerge the new woman of the 21st century,” she added. Chief Guest Dr. Gurupdesh Singh – HoD English, GNDU presided over the function. The event was marked by sufi Qawwali of Baba Bulleh Shah while the school’s band followed with played – “Bey-khauf Jeena hai Azaad mujhe…” that stirred patriotic emotions.
Later scholar badge awards were bestowed upon 124 meritorious students of the school with Amrit Kaur Sandhu school topper ( 97%) and ranked 5th rank in all DPS Schools in India in 12th, was adjudged winner of the ‘Surjit Singh IPM Memorial Trophy’, Yuvika Maheshwari won the Foreign Languages Awards(French), Kartik Tiwari bagged the ‘Golden Spectacles’ library Award.
Students Yuvika Maheshwari, Roop Dilawar Singh were honored with Late Mr. Amarjit Singh Virk Trophy. Suhani Devgan & Nilambar Mehra were presented the All Rounder Trophy for Class X, Rajdeep Sandhu and Kashish Singhal bagged the Role of Excellence. Students Rajdeep Singh Sandhu (Science) and Sidhant Verma were honored with Shri Harsh Jindal Topper Trophy. As many as 77 students won ‘marker cups’ 18 students got Scholar Blazers, 27 students received the ‘Chairman Cup’ in various subjects, three students bagged the Topper Trophies and four were presented the Proficiency Award.
