Amritsar, October 13 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Department of Hotel Management and Tourism of Guru Nanak Dev University in collaboration with Punjab Tourism organized a Heritage Walk on October 12, 2022 to celebrate World Tourism Day. This excursion was specifically arranged for the students of BTTM (Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management and BHMCT (Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology).
This walk was a guided tour deep inside the narrow lanes of the 400-year-old city of Amritsar. One gets to see Katras, Akharas, Bungas, Havelis, and Hatties. This takes you back in the time as you witness town planning, traditional trade and crafts being practiced in the same place and in the same manner as has been done for centuries. During this trip Ms. Gurvinder Kaur Guide (Punjab Tourism Amritsar) accompanied the students to present detailed knowledge of important heritage points. Moreover, this walk covered the distance of 3kms and included visit to fourteen specific attractions of the city.
However, the famous intricately carved wooden facades mesmerized everyone. This activity was an opportunity to feel part of this beautiful, sacred, vibrating city. In addition to it, the main motive was to spread the awareness to protect and restore this invaluable treasure of Bygone era. Students along with the faculty members visited Town Hall, Gurudwara Saragarhi, Qila Ahluwalia, Baba Bohar and numerous other places. They also tried the scrumptious Jalebis at Jalebiwala Chowk. Students thanked the Head of the Department Dr. Mandeep Kaur for always encouraging such activities which help them to gain more knowledge.
