Amritsar, July 3 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A large number of diesel autos running in Guru Nagri Amritsar are spoiling
the city’s traffic system and environment. It is having a bad effect on lakhs of tourists coming to Guru Nagri. Traffic jams are often seen in the city due to diesel autos. The smoke coming out of diesel autos is spoiling the climate of the city. 15 years old diesel autos have been banned by the Punjab government.
Amritsar Traffic Police and RTA Department are continuously issuing challans for diesel autos after the Punjab Government’s order to ban 15 years old diesel autos. Even today about 10 to 15 diesel autos have been charged fine in the city. The process of fine (challan) is going on continuously and in the coming days 15 year old diesel autos will also be seized.
Amritsar Smart City Mission CEO and Municipal Commissioner Sandeep Rishi said that now only the e-auto scheme will work. The Punjab government has selected Guru Nagri Amritsar as a pilot project under this scheme. Due to which diesel autos have been completely banned in the city. Commissioner Rishi said that the owners and drivers of diesel autos should take advantage of “Raahi e Auto Yojana”. He said that along with cash subsidy, huge benefits are also available in the “Raahi e Auto Yojana” of the Smart City Mission. He said that teams have also been formed under this scheme of Smart City Limited. He said that the owners of diesel autos and those running them on rent should take advantage by getting their registration done in “Raahi e Auto Yojana”.
