Amritsar, 24 January (Punjab Post Bureau)- Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Dean Faculty of Sports Medicine of Guru Nanak Dev University and Secretary General of Asian Federation of Sports Medicine attended and coordinated the Executive Committee meeting held recently in the Hong Kong Sports Institute. The main objective of the meeting was to decided to establish the Coordinating Centers in various regions of Asia for inter center research, faculty exchange and student placements. Due to the State of Art infrastructure and quality education the Department of Sports Medicine of the Guru Nanak Dev University has been identified as one of the centers along with Chinese University of Hong Kong and Tehran University. Prof. Sandhu said that with this selection, this would help foster closer relationships and coordination between the Asian Countries with the Guru Nanak Dev University. He also informed the Executive Committee, that as Advisor to the University of Colombo, he would be introducing MD in Sports Medicine in the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine in Colombo as the first sports medicine degree in Sri Lanka. It is pertinence to say that Guru Nanak Dev University is the only University who first started MD in Sports Medicine in Asia. He said that the Faculty of Sports Medicine of the Guru Nanak Dev University successfully hosted 12th Asian Federation of Sports Medicine congress was held in Amritsar in which 43 Asian Countries participated. He said that the next Asian Federation of Sports Medicine Congress would be held in Beijing.
