Amritsar, 24 January (Punjab Post Bureau)- A student’s delegation from University of Illinois Champaign campus, Chicago, USA lead by Dr. U.S. Palekar, Director, Supply Chain Management Program visited the Guru Nanak Dev University and interacted with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A.S. Brar and other faculty members of the University. On reaching the campus Prof. Brar welcomed the delegation and appraised them about the achievement of the University. He extended all possible help and cooperation for collaborative studies and academic exchange of students and faculty between the two universities. Dr. Palekar also discussed different issues concerning food grain storage. He said that the objective of this visit was for studying current post – harvest storage technologies; various problems associated with grain loss and storage conditions. In order to update the information on various environmental issues in India and specifically Punjab, they visited the Department of Botanical & Environmental Sciences. The meeting was coordinated by Prof. Renu Bhardwaj of the Department. Dr. Adarsh Pal Vig, Head introduced the Department and the ongoing teaching and research programs. Prof. A.K. Thukral in his address talked about the current Indian resource and water management. Er. M.S. Bhatti exposed the students to the effluent treatment plant at the campus and briefed them about water related issues. Prof. Avinash Nagpal presented a vote of thanks. The student delegates also interacted with the research fellows and students of the Department. The students also visited the Botanical Garden of the University to see various biodiversity conservation programs of the Department.
