Rani Lakshmi Bai Remembered with Reverence

Amritsar, Nov. 19 (Punjab Post Bureau) –  The students of DAV Public School, Lawrence Road prepared a special programme to pay rich tribute to the great freedom fighter, Rani Lakshmi Bai. The students informed the audience about the sacrifice of Jhansi Ki Rani and recited inspiring poems and sang patriotic songs. Rani Lakshmi Bai was one of the leading warriors of India’s first struggle for Independence . A symbol of bravery and patriotism , she was born on 19th Nov, 1828 at Poona. She did not let her misfortunes overpower her  and fought against the Britishers for Jhansi. She assembled an army of rebellions, which also included women and fought for the defence of the city. Although she lost but she encouraged many in other parts of the country to raise their voice and fight for  independence. She became one of the leading figures of the  Indian rebellion of 1857. The students presented a role play depicting the bravery of this valiant lady who became a  symbol of resistance to the British Raj. The students portrayed the atrocities of the Britishers towards Indian freedom fighters and how Indians were forced to give up their rights. The students paid homage to Rani Lakshmi Bai through an impressive  presentation which reminded of  the brutality of the Brishers against Indians.

Regional Director, Amritsar Zone   Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra, Principal BBK DAV College for Women, Lawrence Road and the Manager of the school , Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Principal  DAV College  Hathi Gate sent  their best wishes on this occasion. They asked  the students to respect the independence they were enjoying and said that they  should join hands to bring harmony in the society.

Dr. Neera Sharma, Principal of the school while  addressing the students said that students must take inspiration from the life of the freedom fighters who aimed to free the country from the shackles of slavery. She added that it was now the duty of the young generation to safeguard this independence from any kind external and internal slavery.
