Amritsar, Nov. 23 (Punjab Post Bureau)- On the occasion of World Fisheries Day, the Environment Club –Green Brigade of DAV Public School Lawrence Road presented a special morning assembly and a skit based on the trials and tribulations of the fishing community across the world. The theme for the assembly was – Protection of Marine Ecology and Coastal Envrionment. The students shared their thoughts and industrial pollution, encroachment of coastal areas, smuggling and decline of provision of basic amenities in the fishing community. The need of the hour is preserving our oceans and aquatic habitat from further degradation and removing toxic heavy metals such as lead / mercury / cadmium from our food chains, which lead to cancers and severe health disorders. The message of saving our environment and taking charge of the situation was made loud and clear by the students through an impressive role – play. In the end , the students pledged to preserve the environment and stop its further degradation. Regional Director Amritsar Zone, Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra, Principal BBK DAV College for Women, Lawrence Road and the Manager of the school, Dr. Rajesh Kumar Principal DAV College Hathi Gate appreciated the Green Brigade of the school for its efforts. Dr. Neera Sharma , Principal of the school , said that the need of the hour was to join hands and work in unison to protect the environment .She said that she was happy at the initiative taken by the students and would like to see them spread this message to the masses.
