
Amritsar, Jan 28 (Punjab Post Bureau)-The students of DAV Public School, Lawrence Road saluted the Lion of Punjab, Lala Lajpat Rai on his birth anniversary which falls on January 28. Lala Lajpat Rai was one of the foremost leaders who fought against British rule in India. The students paid homage to the great freedom fighter for his immense courage and conviction to see the country free from the shackles of the Britishers. The students presented a touching sequence of the events highlighting the protest against Simon commission led by Lala Lajpat Rai. The heartrending scene of lathi – charge brought back the memories of harsh atrocities suffered by the freedom fighters. S. Gurbinder Singh Bhatti from Punjabi faculty informed the students that Lala Lajpat Rai was deeply influenced by Arya Samaj. After completing his study of Law from Government college at Lahore, he started his legal practices and collected funds for the Dayanand College . He also participated and attended Arya Samaj functions and Congress activities. He was a part of the Lal – Bal – Pal trio and formed the extremist faction of the Indian National congress. He founded the Indian Home League Society in America and wrote a book called ‘Young India’, which was banned in Britain . He was an important figure in protests against Jalianwala Bagh Massacre and the suspension of Non – Co – operation movement. In the protest against Simon – commission , which was in India to discuss constitutional reforms, he received severe head injuries and he died on Nov. 17, 1928. While remembering the great sacrifice of Punjab Kesari, Lala Lajpat Rai , the students took a pledge to serve the nation with the same conviction and sincerity and free it from the shackles of prevailing social evils.
On this occasion, Regional Director , Punjab Zone – A , Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra and the Manager of the school, Dr. Rajesh Kumar , Principal DAV College said that Lala ji believed that it was important for the national cause to organise propaganda. They advised the students to join hands and stand against injustice to pay true homage to the great leaders.
Dr. Neera Sharma, Principal of the school said that we should always keep in mind that the foundation of our freedom was laid on the sacrifices of many great leaders , freedom fighters and brave hearts. She advised the students to work hard to realise the dream of these patriots.
