Amritsar GIA students’ bag two golds at IIT-Roorkee Fest

Amritsar, Feb 21 (Punjab Post Bureau)- Students of Global Institute Amritsar (GIA) bagged two golds at IIT-Roorkee Social Festival that concluded recently. The annual festival by IIT Roorkee namely – SANKALP’16, was held in the campus of IIT-Roorkee that saw the participation of more than 500 students of  IIT colleges from all over India.

The winner teams were honored by Institute’s Vice Chairman Dr Akashdeep Singh on their return, at the Institute’s campus. The three-day Festival saw a series of competitions, attended by more than 2,000 students from all over India with four enthralling competitions. These included themes of -Rejuvenation (group dance), Halla bol (nukkad natak/ street theater), Band-bash (Band competitions), traditional walk (modeling of traditional attires).

Widely noted as one of the first of its kind Festival in India, SANKALP provides impetus and is the driving force for the IIT students to showcase their talent in myriad activities other than academic, on a national platform. GIA students won golds in two events including Rejuvenation and Halla Bol and bagged the trophy. In the theme of Rejuvenation (group dance) GIA student’s group dance highlighted the dirtiest malaise of society on a multi-song music, with the presentation–“Stop Rape”! Under the faculty coordinator Dr. Leena Jain, as many as 14-students dance team of GIA won the gold. The team included Raghu Kanojia (Campus Ambassador),Rahul, Manav Soni, Akashdeep Singh, Deepak, Manisha, Navalpreet Kaur, Garima Mahajan, Reena, Sandeep Singh, Palak, Gitika, Simple, Gaganpreet Kaur and Tarun.

In another meaningful presentation on the theme of Halla Bol, 20-GIA students under faculty coordinator Er. Mandeep Kaur, performed a moving tale on the alarming scourge of drugs which threatens youth in a monumental way.  With Raghu Kanojia (Campus Ambassador) in the lead, other actors included  Sangeet, Amitpal Singh, Rahul, Sunny, Tapas Tondan , Raghav Sharma, Manisha, Navalpreet Kaur, Manroop Kaur, Sunpreet Kaur, Mukul Dhawan, Vishal, Sarwani, Kumar Ishan, Gaganpreet Kaur, Tarun, Abhijeet Singh, Gautam and Aman Kumar. Dr Akashdeep Singh Vice President GIA while honoring the students informed –“SANKALP Annual Festivals by IIT Roorkee, is essentially about socially relevant and intellectually stimulating events that enjoins the country’s varied cultural fabric with socially relevant themes.”
