Amritsar, April 19 (Punjab Post Bureau)- DAV Public School, Lawrence Road today celebrated the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Hansraj Ji with reverence. A special programme was organised which was dedicated to the teachings and ideals of this great educationist and ardent follower of Arya Samaj. He was born on April 19, 1964 in Hoshiarpur district. He was a follower of Swami Dayanand, the founder of Dayanand Anglo–Vedic school system. In 1886, Mahatma Hansraj started the first DAV School at Lahore together with Guru Dutt Vidhyarthi , three years after the death of Swami Dayanand.
The students highlighted his philosophy and informed about his works for the upliftment of society . He was a great nationalist who was an untiring relief worker, who worked during the earthquakes at Kangra in 1905, Quetta in 1934, Bihar in 1935 and famines in Rajasthan in 1905. The students sang devotional songs and recited poems highlighting the vision of the great scholar for the society, which included widow remarriage, abolition of Sati and child marriages. He was against caste distinctions also.
Regional Director , Punjab Zone – A , Dr.(Mrs.) Neelam Kamra and the Manager of the school, Dr.Rajesh Kumar , Principal DAV College Amritsar sent their best wishes on this occasion and advised the students to follow the path shown by the great visionary. In their message they asked the students to imbibe true Aryan values for a better living.
Dr. Neera Sharma, Principal of the school blessed the students on this occasion. She said that Mahatma Hansraj Ji had always propagated enlightenment in the form of education, with an appeal to despise social evils. She asked the students to take inspiration from his life and make positive contribution to the society.
