Amritsar, June 17 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Memoradum of understanding ( MoU) between Guru Nanak Dev University and Sardar Sarwan Singh National Institute of Bioenergy (SSNIBE) Kapurthala was signed in the office of Vice-Chancellor of the University. Prof A.S Brar,Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the University and Prof Y K Yadav, Director General of SSNIBE on behalf of his organization signed this agreement to carry out collaborative research on utilization of agro-residues for production of ethanol, biogas, and value added products.
Prof. Brar emphasized the need for developing technologies for utilization of paddy straw into ethanol and other valuable chemicals. He said that this MoU would encourage the exchange of researchers between two institutes as well use of advanced research facilities in the field of bioenergy. The collaboration also marked the beginning of DBT sponsored Indo Brazilian project “Biorefining of sugarcane bagasse for production of bioethanol and value added products” where the scientists from two institues (Dr Sachin Kumar,Principal investigator from SSNIBE and Dr B.S. Chadha, GNDU alongwith Dr Polikarpov, Sao Paulo, Brazil ) would work together. The total cost of the project is Rs 1.29 Crores .
Another MoU was signed between Guru Nanak Dev University and South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSMT), Rapid city, USA. The two institutes would carry out collaborative research in the field of Chemical, Physical, Biological and Engineering including Energy and Environment. It may be mentioned that South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSMT) is one the leading Institute of USA where they are known to even out-compete Harvard School, USA in placements. This MoU would give ample scope to nurture expertise that would be of benefit to the participating institutes. Prof. S.S. Dhillon, Registrar, Dr T.S Banipal,Director Research , Dr Subodh Kumar,Dean Sciences , Dr D.S Arora Dean Life Sciences, Dr. B.S. Chadha, Microbilogy Department and Prof. Anish Dua, Zoology Department were present on this occasion .
