Khalsa University Management Upbeat, Thanks Govt.

PPN1307201609Amritsar, July 13 (Punjab Post Bureau)- An upbeat Khalsa University (KU) management today thanked the state government for much-awaited approval to the new varsity. The multi-faculty professional university KU will give boost to the higher education and research in the region and it will be boon for the border areas, crying for quality education, said authorities.                Extending his gratitude to CM Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal, historic Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina KU will be a `professional, world class university’. He reiterated the management’s stand that main Khalsa College’s heritage building will be protected and the College continue under Guru Nanak Dev University as KU will come up away from College. KU, which will be managed by democratically elected 101-member Council, presently headed by Satyajit Singh Majithia would focus on job-oriented courses. This 1890 established charitable body which is already running 18 educational institutions including historic Khalsa College has already has vast experience in managing institutions of higher learning. “The varsity will be run by an elected body which is a non-profit making charitable society’’, said Chhina. As per University Grants Commission (UGC) reports, the country needs 1700 universities by 2020 and only 777 exists today. “Thus, we welcome Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences in the city too’’, said Chhina adding that state need more universities to give fillip to the higher learning’’, said he. He further said that KU will focus on future requirement of students for generating human resource for enabling them to the employment.   Various institutions including Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), former National Minority Commission Chairman Tarlochan Singh, Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD), Guru Nank Dev University (GNDU), Dilbir Foundation, Sikh Students Federation, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), Sikh Diaspora including American Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (AGPC), Punjab Natshala, Art Gallery, Non-Aided Affiliated Colleges Management Association, Miri-Piri Academy, Sarbat Da Bhalla headed by Dr.SP Singh Oberio, Springdale Education Society, Pingalwara Charitable Society, SSSS College management, Educationists, Principals and teachers welcomed the step. “I am happy that Khalsa University has been set up by state government’’, said SGPC Chief Avtar Singh Makkar. GNDU VC Dr.AS Brar, former VCs Dr.SP Singh, Dr.HS Soch, Chandigarh University VC Dr.RS Bawa welcomed the decision and termed it as boost for higher education. CKD President Charanjit Singh Chadha, DSGMC Secretary MS Sirsa, AGPC Coordinator Dr.Pritpal Singh from USA welcomed the move. The Sikh diaspora was buoyed over the move to set up Khalsa University. Bhupinder Singh Holland,  Harbans Singh Rai, father in law of Canada’s Defence Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan, Gurcharan Singh, Joga Singh, Harcharan Singh Grewal, Baldev Singh, Balkar Singh all from Norway, Inder Singh Jammu, former Mayor of Barkin-Dagenham in UK, Harpreet Singh Sandhu from USA, Dr.Davinder Singh Chhina from Punjab Cultural Foundation, writer and economist Dr.Gurnam Singh Raikhy welcomed the move.
