Students should step forward to avail Inspire Scholarships – Dr. Rajesh Kumar

Amritsar, August 5 (Punjab Post Bureau) – DAV College observed presence of prominent scholars from the field of Sciences on the second day of Inspire Science Camp. This Five day INSPIRE camp provides a unique platform for exchange of knowledge, sharing of experience and to nurture the curiosity of the students in Sciences, for the fifth time in a time span of two years. About 224 students from 16 schools from various districts of Punjab like Partap World School, Pathankot, Avalon Girls Sr secondary School, Pathankot, Jialal Mittal Public School, Gurdaspur, DAV International School, Amritsar, Salvation Army Public School, Batala participated in the camp.

Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar and Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Programme Coordinator of INSPIRE extended a floral welcome to the guests. DAV College felt legitimate pride for organizing five day science camp INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research). On the Second day of the DST sponsored science camp, the event observed a series of intellectual lectures by prominent Scholars from the different field of Sciences.

Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar motivated the students to step forward and avail INSPIRE scholarships to pursue their carriers in life sciences. He also congratulated the staff and students of DAV College and added that it is an honor for DAV College to hold the camp for the fifth time.

Dr. Chanchal Kumar, Associate Professor & Dean Academics, IISER, Mohali delivered a lecture on “Counting Lattice Paths’.  Speaking on the occasion, he focused on tips for counting lattice paths.  The second lecture on “Change of season: How much we Know?” was delivered by Dr Rajwant, Scientist E, Science and Engineering Research Board, New Delhi. Interacting with the students in her lecture, She discussed about the reason behind why do seasons change? He also discussed about different types of seasonal contrasts, Ozone layer and various seasonal epochs.

In Third lecture, Dr Daizy Sharma, Head Department of Botany and College Administrator acquainted students on the topic “Medicinal Plants and their Use”.  She explained how medicinal plants have been identified and used throughout human history for curing various diseases. She also motivated students to take interest in the field of sciences.

            The event pursued with a series of practical sessions in which the students tried their hand with the sophisticated equipments of the laboratory under the supervision of experts. Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Programme Coordinator of INSPIRE said that the students will be revealed to the joys of innovations of the field by performing the practicals and will be provided conducive atmosphere for their scientific growth.

Dr. Ashish Gupta, Assistant Programme Coordinator, Prof .R.k Jha, Dr. Daizy Sharma, Dr Rajni Khanna,  Dr. Anita Mahajan, Dr. Neeru Gupta, Dr Vikas Gupta, Dr. Neeru Gupta and Councilor  Rama Mahajan were also present during the event.
