Amritsar, October 26 (Punjab Post Bureau)- DAV Public School Lawrence Road organised a special assembly to observe Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Jayanti, Vigilance Awareness Week and Azad Hind Fauj foundation day.
The students paid tribute to Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi. He was an Indian journalist, a nationalist, a leader of the Indian National Congress and an Independence movement activist. He was an important figure in the non-co-operation movement. He was a fighter against oppression and injustice. His life was a constant struggle and he brought about a revolution through his writings and participation in the national movement. Students remembered him by narrating the incidents from his life, recited poem and sang patriotic songs.
To commemorate the sacrifices made by the Indian Jawans, the school observed Azad Hind Fauj foundation day. Azad Hind Fauj was another name for Netaji’s Indian National Army which was actually founded by Mohan Singh and comprised Indian Prisoners of war in Singapore. Netaji Subhash Chander Bose wanted to rid the country of British rule by raising such a strong force. Students of the school sang the popular patriotic composition Kadam Kadam Badhye Ja…………… which motivated everyone. They saluted the Indian Army for playing a pivotal role in nation building.
The school is also going to observe Vigilance Awareness week from 26th October to 31st October. The theme for Vigilance Awareness this year is – Preventive Vigilance as a tool of good governance. Vigilance Awareness week coincides with the birthday of Sardar Vallabhai Patel known to be a man of high integrity. The students and the teachers of the school spoke on how good governance plays a vital role in promoting economic development of the country and well being of the citizens. They spoke on the steps which should be taken to eliminate corruption at every level. They enacted a role play highlighting the rights and responsibilities of the consumers. In the end they took a pledge to have a corruption free society
Regional Director Punjab Zone A Dr. Neelam Kamra and Manager of the school Dr. Rajesh Kumar said that awareness should be generated among the public so that nobody could cheat them and it will also help in curbing administrative malpractices.
Dr. Neera Sharma, Principal of the school saluted the Indian army and the freedom fighters who will always remain a popular and passionate topic in Indian culture and said that one has to remain vigilant and aware as it helps in curbing opportunities for corruption.
