Sachin Tendlkar Cricket Tournament Concludes at DAV Public School

Amritsar, Nov. 25 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The 4^th Sachin Tendulkar Cricket Tournament concluded at DAV Public School , Lawrence Road , Amritsar amidst huge fanfare and cheers. The much awaited Inter–Section tournament for Std IX , which promises to strengthen academics with co – curricular activities under the CCE pattern commenced on 16.11.2016. The aim of this initiative is to develop the values of team  spirit , fair play , discipline , sportsmanship , co – operation,  leadership etc among students. The matches were organised under the able guidance of the Principal Dr. Neera Sharma and the supervision of Mrs. Anju Gupta Supervisor Std IX & X. Mr. Balwinder Singh and Mr. Manvinder Singh, faculty Social Science  department of the school , meticulously organised  the matches and encouraged the students for fair play.  Much excitement was seen among the students as a total of 12 teams (i.e 12 sections of Std IX) competed among themselves . After  a series of 12 tough matches, 8 teams qualified for  the quarter finals. The first semifinal  was held between IX- F and IX – B  and IX – B won  the match by 6 wickets. The second semifinal was held between IX – I and IX – D where IX – I crushed IX – D by 70 runs to enter the final . In the final match that was held between IX – I and IX – B the students gave a tough fight to each other. The final match was won by IX – B by 4 wickets. The Man of the Match trophy went to Shivansh of   IX – B. Amidst loud cheers, the winning trophy was handed over to IX – B by the Principal, Dr. Neera Sharma who praised them for their team work and winning strategy. Regional Director Punjab Zone – A Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra and the Manager of the school , Dr.  Rajesh Kumar Principal DAV College Amritsar congratulated the school for such an innovative step and said that such activities would help in the all round development of the students. They blessed the winning team of its fabulous performance. Dr. Neera Sharma Principal of the school expressed her happiness at the successful conclusion of the tournament . She added that the values learnt during the formative years of a child go  a long way in shaping the bright future of the students. Mrs. Anju Gupta Supervisor Std IX & X under whose supervision the whole tournament was organised applauded the efforts of the teams and the teachers. She said that sports provide a positive outlet to the suppressed energies of the students which result in healthy development. According to her many lessons of life are learnt on the playing field.
