Amritsar, January 13 (Punjab Post Bureau) -DAV Public School Lawrence Road celebrated Lohri with great fervour

and enthusiasm. The celebration was titled ‘Lohri Umangan Di’ to highlight the hope, inspiration and cultural significance that is attached to this festival full of joy, brightness and brilliance. It was a matter of great honour for the school that Bharat Vikas Parishad chose DAV Public School as the venue to celebrate Lohri. The whole team of Bharat Vikas Parishad comprising Mr.Tarsem Mahajan (President), Mr. Nanish (General Secretary), Mr. Ashok Dhawan, Mr. Nagpal, Mr. Sumit Puri, Mrs. Ritu Puri, Mr. J.P Singh, Mr. Chabha were present there. The Principal of the school extended here heartfelt greetings and welcomed the guests.
A colourful programme was presented to mark the event in which children gave a brief introduction of the historical and cultural facts and events related to this festival. A short role play depicting the folklore associated with Lohri was presented. Children presented folk songs and giddha to add to the colourful celebrations. Bonfire was lit and all the students and the staff members offered their prayers for the prosperity of the nation.
The main stress of the celebration was on celebrating the birth of the girl child. With the dwindling gender ratio of the girl in current society, the need of the hour is to realise the problems that would arise due to this imbalance. The event gave a message that girl child must be given equal respect and importance like any other male child.
President of Bharat Vikas Parishad Mr.Tarsem Mahajan gave the vote of thanks. He appreciated the efforts put in by the students of the school and encouraged them to value their cultural heritage. He laid stress on the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and asked the students to take inspiration from the life of Swami ji to lead a fruitful life. Mr. Sumit Puri and Mrs. Ritu Puri honoured the Principal of the school Dr. Neera Sharma with a shawl and a momento.
Regional Director Punjab Zone A Dr.Neelam Kamra and Manager of the School Dr. Rajesh Kumar conveyed their blessings and greetings to the students and the teachers. Dr. Neera Sharma Principal of the school addressed the students and greeted them on this occasion. She encouraged them to imbibe good values that this festival teaches and make efforts to improve themselves and lead a simple and rightful life. She also advised them not to use Chinese string as it is very harmful.
