National seminar on ‘Agricultural and Rural Diversification in Punjab’ inaugurated at GNDU

Amritsar, February 17 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A two-days national seminar on ‘Agricultural and Rural Diversification in Punjab’ was inaugurated here today in the Guru Nanak Bhawan, Conference Hall of the Guru Nanak Dev University. This seminar is being hosted by Punjab School of Economics of the University and sponsored by UGC, New Delhi. As many as 50 papers would be presented by the various subject experts from different Universities and the colleges of the country.PPN1702201719

Prof. Pradeep Bhargav, Director, G.B. Pant Institute of Social Science, Allahabad delivered the key-note address.  In his address, he highlighted the historical background of Punjab Agriculture and stated that how Punjab agriculture is converted into sick industry which is bleeding.  Though, Punjab is  known as a ‘Food Basket ‘ of India but it paid a high cost in term of depleting water table, overuse of insecticides and pesticides deteriorating soil quality, increasing burden of indebtedness, increasing incidence of cancer and suicides, he added.

Professor Navdeep Singh Tung, Dean, Academic Affairs gave the presidential address and appreciated the most suitable issues to be raised under the various sub-theme of the Seminar. Professor Paramjit Nanda, Coordinator and Head of the Department highlighted the achievements of the department and introduced the theme and sub-themes of the Seminar.

Prof. Parminder Singh, Co-coordinator of the Seminar, conducted the proceeding of the inaugural session.  Professor Kuldip Kaur, Organizing Secretary of the Seminar proposed the vote of thanks on this occasion. A large number of students and faculty were presents.
