Guru Nanak Dev University Budget Estimates for year 2017-18 approved

PPN2003201713Amritsar, March 20 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Senate and Syndicate of the Guru Nanak Dev University approved the Budget Estimates of 438 Crore 87 Lac and 81 thousand for the year 2017-18.  University would spend 51.99 percent amount on further improvement in Teaching, Allied Teaching, Research and Education.

It was specially mentioned that this year also no financial burden shall be imposed on students. It is pertinent to mention that for the last few years, no fees hike has been imposed. This year also the fee structure would remain the same. Prof. A.S. Brar, Vice-Chancellor presided over both the meetings and Prof. Karanjit Singh Kahlon, Registrar presented the agenda in both the meetings. The members congratulated Prof. Brar and University Administration for presenting balanced budget.

Prof. Brar informed the members that due his personal reasons, he had resigned from the post of Vice-Chancellor and this would be his last meeting as Vice-Chancellor. He also thanked the members and University fraternity for their cooperation and guidance for the more upliftment of the University. The members appreciated the services of Prof. Brar rendered to the University during his tenure. They also lauded the contribution of former Registrar, Prof. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon and members of senate who retired recently. During financial year 2016-17, the University has spent Rs. 4 crores 79 lac 44 thousand to help the economically backward and intelligent students in form of fee concessions. Similarly, Rs. 11 lac and 86 thousand were spent to help the handicapped students in the form of scholarships. Other special scholarships and facilities in terms of finance were also provided to sports personal and student-artists to encourage them to participate in cultural and sports activities. A total of 240 full time non-NET Ph.D scholars were given 8000/- and 10000/- (for sciences) scholarship per month under UPE Scheme. He said that during this financial year University would spent 51.99 percent of the total budget on Teaching, Allied Teaching, Research and Education. He said that 12.17 percent would spent on non-teaching departments, 10.29 percent on general administration, 4.51 percent on examinations, 14.06 percent on miscellaneous (teaching, on-teaching and others) and 6.98 percent would be spent on construction purposes. Grants of 24 crore, 2 lac, 46 thousand were received from various funding agencies and schemes by teachers of various departments during 2016-17. Prof. Brar also informed the house about the achievements of the University in the field of research, education, culture, sports and excellent campus placements during this year.
