Punjab to Restore Greenery of Amritsar by Planting 4 Lac Saplings

Amritsar, August 5 ( Punjab Post Bureau)- The Punjab Government has drawn up a comprehensive plan to plant 4 lac saplings to restore the green cover of holy city Amritsar. Forest Minister Mr. Chunni Lal Bhagat today said that due to series of development projects being under taken in holy city, full grown trees had to be cut for widening of roads. He said that government has launched mass plantation so that there was no adverse effect on the environment. The Minister said that Punjab Government has decided to involve various NGOs and religious bodies in this campaign and plantation would be done on government land as well as land belonging to religious organizations. He said that within Amritsar forest division more than 1.5 lac saplings would be planted and remaining 2.5 lac would be distributed free to various government organizations, NGOs and religious bodies. Mr. Bhagat said that on the banks of UBDC, nature park was being develop and public was being involved in this green Amritsar campaign.
