Two – day Documentary Film Festival inaugurates at GNDU

Amritsar, August 30 (Punjab Post Bureau) – First time a two – day Documentary Film Festival is being organized by PUNJ3008201901the Guru Nanak Dev University here today in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan Auditorium of the University. This festival is being sponsored by India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) in collaboration with Majha House and organized by Mass Communication Department &  Talkies Club of the University. A large number of Club members, faculty, students and personalities associated with film making were present.

            Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu formally inaugurated this festival by lighting the candles in the presence of S. Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, Honourary Sec. Khalsa College Governing Council, S Jatinder Brar, President Naat Shala, Sh Kewel Dhariwal, Eminent Theatre personality, Ms Preeti Gill, Founder Majha House and Dr Jasmeet Nayyar, Former Director Higher Education. Apart from Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. S.S. Behl, Registrar, Prof. K.S. Kahlon, Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Hardip Singh, Prof. Shweta Shenoy, Head, MYAS- GNDU Department of Sports Sciences and Medicine and Prof. Kuldeep Kaur Garcha, Head Mass Communication Department were also present.

            Prof. Sandhu said that it is a matter of pride that Guru Nanak Dev University is organising this event with the objective to give exposure to the students of the University in the field of film making especially for the students of Mass Communication.  After seening the overwhelming response of students, he said that shortly a more big auditorium, which is under construction will be inaugurated shortly and dedicated for this type of activities. He said that more this type of activities will be encouraged at the university campus for the benefit of the students.    

            Earlier, Dr. Jasmeet Nayyar welcomed the chief guest and others. She also gave the details about the object behind the establishment of Majha House and its activities. She said that this is a unique opportunity for students to learn the film making process. Ms Preeti Gill said that Majha House provides a platform to aspiring art lovers and others to discuss their issues and explore their artistic activities. Dr Venus Singh Mithu, mentor GNDU Talkies presented the vote of thanks at this occasion.

         Apart from watching the documentaries, the students also interacted with filmmakers Shabani Hassanwalia and Pallavi Paul  who were present to 
discuss their movies and the art of film making.

           Over the course of two days, there will be screenings of several films in a variety of languages and cinematic forms exploring diverse themes across music, dance, theatre, photography, cinema and interplanetary travel. 

           This  IFA Film Festival is free and open to all.
