Sand to be available for public at reasonable rates

2 helplines launches for information on illegal mining

Kapurthala, November 2 (Punjab Post Bureau) – As per the orders of Punjab Government, the district administration is fully geared up to ensure the availability of sand to common man at affordable prices.

            Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala Mrs. Deepti Uppal and SSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh today presided over the meeting of Additional Deputy Commissioner, SPs, SDMs, DSPs and officials of Mining Department today.

            They said that sand would be available for people as per the prices fixed by the Punjab government which is Rs.60 tonne.

            Joint teams of civil and police administration have been constituted to ensure the sale of sand at the affordable prices, they added.

            Apart from this the panchayats would also get sand for government development works at government fixed rates.

            Deputy Commissioner also said that while excavating sand, digging would be allowed only till 3 feet as per the instructions of National Green Tribunal to avoid any adverse affect on the natural flow of rivers/ ponds etc.

            S.S.P Kapurthala said that strict action was being taken against illegal sand mining and for this helpline numbers 95929-14519 at Kapurthala and 99150-10200 at Phagwara have also been set up.

            People can call these contact numbers 24 hours a day to provide information about illegal sand mining etc.

            On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner Phagwara Charandeep Singh, SDM Sultanpur Lodhi Ranjit Singh, SDM Bhulath Shairi Malhotra, S.P Jasbir Singh, SP Phagwara Sarabjit Singh Bahia, DSP Surinder Kumar, Sarwan Singh Bal and officials of the mining department were also present.
