SGPC Team Winner in Diwali Hockey Tournament at Khalsa College

Amritsar, November 5 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee hockey team lifted the overall trophy in the prestigious Khalsa Colleges Diwali Tournament today by beating the Runner up Maharaja Ranjit Singh Hockey Academy. In the interesting match the former team beat the later with 1-0 final played in the background of the picturesque Khalsa College ground.

            Jammu-11 remained at the third position and Khalsa College Governing Council honourary secretary  Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina who gave away the trophy and awards announced that the tournament would be organized at the larger scale in the coming times. “This is prestigious tournament which dates back to pre-partition era when team from Pakistan used to play here. We want to organize this tournament at larger scale with more team to participate”, he announced.

            He said such events help in nurturing the sportsman’s spirit among the students and the tournament must be an annual affair. Chhina appreciated the efforts of staff and students and said the Khalsa institutions had been in the forefront to provide best talent to the national pool in various sports. He added that the Management is keen on providing every kind of opportunity to the students of institutions running under the Council to excel in Sports.

            Principal Dr.Mehal Singh made elaborate arrangements and meticulously organized the sports competitions.  He read out the annual report highlighting the sports achievements of the College and welcomed the guests which included the principals of all Khalsa Institutions. Colleges’ sports in charge Dr. Daljit Singh said there is dire need to encourage sports in the times when the youth were indulging in non-sporting activities.

            On this occasion Principals Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Dr. Surinder Pal Kaur Dhillon, Puneet Kaur Nagpal, Dr. Surinder Kaur, Dr. Kamaljit Kaur, Prof. Sukhmin Bedi, Navneen Bawa, Davinder Singh, Dr. Atam Singh Randhawa, Dr. Parminder Singh and Olympian Balwinder Singh Shammi were present.
