AVM Mulls Stronger Air Connectivity of Amritsar with Go First Airline

Amritsar, November 18 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Keeping up with the efforts for the continuous domestic and nternational network development of Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar, a delegation of Amritsar Vikas Manch (AVM) comprising of its Patron Kulwant Singh Ankhi, Patron Manmohan Singh, Secretary Yogesh Kamra and Ravreet Singh met with the senior officials of India’s only Ultra-Low-Cost carrier, GoFirst at Amritsar

              In a press release, the patron of AVM Manmohan Singh Brar informed that after the inaugural launch of six GoFirst flights from the Airport, our team had a fruitful discussion with the senior officials of the GoFirst about expanding connectivity of the airline with more domestic and international destinations. We thanked Go First for the launch of 3 daily direct flights to Delhi, 2 to Mumbai, 1 daily to Srinagar and expressed happiness that the airline is also providing convenient one-stop transfer connections to other major destinations in India likeLucknow, Bagdogra (Siliguri), Guwahati, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Chennai, Varanasi via their connecting hubs of Delhi and Mumbai.

                 During the meetings, we shared data and presented the potential ofdirect domestic as well as international connectivity opportunities from the airport including Nanded, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Chennai, Muscat and Abu Dhabi to Mohit Dwivedi, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sumit Bhandari, Deputy General Manager and Aman Kohli, Amritsar station manager of the airline. Go First officials assured the delegation that they would further evaluate the opportunities and consider them according to the airline’sfuture expansion plans. AVM also encouraged the airline to use night parking facility at the airport.

               The launching of GoFirst services from the airport was another achievement for Amritsar Vikas Manch and FlyAmritsar Initiative, as they had reached out to the airline in Jan 2021 with detailed statistics, said Yogesh Kamra. The team of Go First senior officials later visited the Airport and also met with AVM members. He further added that after the meeting, the airline agreed to launch services from Amritsar from late March 2021, but the plan had to be delayed due to the 2nd COVID-19 pandemic wave in the country.

              Ravreet Singh an aviation blogger said that the arrival of GoFirst at the airport, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, promises a strong rebound of the domestic traffic at the airport in the upcoming months. He further added that, the increase in the domestic traffic flow, would eventually also provide a much-needed boost to the economy and the tourism industry of Amritsar.

             The delegation accompanied the airline officials to visit Sadda Pind and paid obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib Amritsar. The officials were also honored with a Siropa (robe of honor) and religious literature by SGPC at the information office of Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar.
