Colombian Music and Dance Mesmerizes Punjabis at Khalsa College for Women

Fusion of Colombian and Punjabi Folklore at 10th Amritsar International Festival

Amritsar, November 13 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The dance troupe from Colombia today mesmerized the audience with their captivating performances at Khalsa College for Women (KCW) during the 10th Amritsar International Folk Festival. The magical glimpses of the musical fusion of Columbian and Punjabi folklore were witnessed as the folk artists from South American country and college students took the stage to storm.

The audience received the rare and thrilling performances with applause and accolades. The festival, organized by the Khalsa College Governing Council in collaboration with Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC) and Khalsa College Global Alumni Association (KCGAA), aims to promote multiculturalism and cohesion of inter-societal understanding, said the organizers.

Exhibiting enthralling presentations, the 13-member-‘Puerta De Oro De Colombia’ group, clad in their traditional colorful dresses, hit the stage with enthusiasm and won the hearts with their foot-tapping dances and melodious singing of their native place. Apart from the music, their theatrical presentation also touched the nerves.

They later intermingled with the students and performed Punjabi folklore together. The KCW and other Khalsa institutions’ students also exhibited Sikh martial art Gatka, Bhangra, Luddi and Gidda during the festival.

The Chief Guest at the occasion Khalsa College Governing Council honorary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina who along with Principal Dr. Surinder Kaur earlier welcomed the guest artists said the festival was an opportunity for the students of two diverse nations to come together. The event, he said, would go a long way to forge cooperation and friendship amongst different cultures.

He said the world is becoming one village and the future belongs to international understanding and brotherhood which is possible through such cultural exchanges. Dr. Surinder Kaur said that such inter-cultural festivals must be part and parcel of students’ lives. She said they were happy to host the tenth chapter of the international festival.

PCPC and KCGAA head Dr. Davinder Singh Chhina said that it was the 10th festival in the series and their Council promotes multiculturalism and cooperation through the exchange of artists. He said the Colombian group was headed by Director Rosy and included Danny Joel Acosta Gomez, Airy M Ospino, Nictec N. Ponce, Alixs Schaefer, Arby Guevara-Munoz, Julio Camargo, William Javier, Lizeth Sarina Ricardo, Juan Manuel Aragon Castro, Javier Alberto Bula Garcia, Diana Carolina Castaneda Barragan, Milena Esther Tapia Pinto and Jose Manuel Nieto Quintero.

Writer Jasbir Singh Sarna, Sikh Preacher Bhai Arjinder Singh Khalsa, Prof. Ajaypal Singh Dhillon from KCGC TV, Dr. Satinder Kaur Dhillon, Sufi Singer Sharuti Sahota and Sports star Manveer Kaur were presented with the Heritage Award for their contribution towards protecting Sikh history and culture. KCGC joint secretary Rajbir Singh, Member Gurmohinder Singh, Sarbjit Singh, Principals Dr. Mehal Singh, Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Dr. Manju Bala, Dr. Kamaljit Kaur were present.
