

Amritsar Mar. 21 (Punjab Post Bureau) – With two gold and two silver medals Baljinder Kaur student of Electronic and Communication Engineering (ECE) won the Best Athlete (girls) title at the “6th Annual Sports Day 2015” held at Global Institutes.
Baljinder Kaur took golds in both Shot Put and Long Jump and added two silvers in 100mts and 200mts sprint. Palavi Sharma a student of Computer Science and Engineering- (CSE ) gave Baljinder a close second bagging two golds in 400mts and 800mts sprint each with one silver in shot put. While no single boy could claim the best athlete title.
In the team events, MBA department team beat Mechanical Engineering teams to win the volleyball title. The department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) won both the girls and boys titles in Table Tennis. MBA team also won the Football match beating Mechanical Engineering by a solitary goal. Team of ME won the Badminton matches beating team of Information Technology while team of Computer Science and Engineering-( CSE) won the basketball title too.
In 100 mts sprint (girls ) Hiba Tul Shakoor civil engineer (CE) stood first while ) Baljinder Kaur of (ECE) stood second. In 100 meters (boys) (1) Sonu Kumar Mechanical Engineering (ME) (2) Nitin Kumar (ME).
In 200 meters (girls)- (1) Hiba Tul Shakoor (CE) 2. Baljinder Kaur (EC).

Mr. Tejinder Singh Maur, AIG Zonal Crime-Amritsar was the Special Guest and Dr. B.P. Garg, Director- Registrar – PITTTR, PTU, Jalandhar Inaugurated the meet. Speaking on the occasion, the AIG appreciated that while imparting Higher studies the Global Institutes has incorporated sports that not only brings a spirit of healthy competition, a refreshment from hard study but ensures that students remain secure from the lure of drugs. Earlier the Chairman and vice Chairman Dr BS Chandi and Dr Akashdeep Singh welcomed the special guests.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Akashdeep Singh said only academic excellence cannot mould an individual’s personality. Colleges concentrate mostly on academic records and bookish achievements neglecting the merits of games and sports that help in holistic development of the student as it intensifies qualities of leadership, competitiveness, team spirit, discipline, struggle and healthy living. The AIG distributed the prizes among the winners.
