Gurjeet Aujla supports Amritsar Vikas Manch’s demand to provide land for IIM in Amritsar

Amritsar, Jun. 7 (Punjab Post Bureau) – President District Congress Committee Amritsar Rural Gurjeet Singh Aujla today joined the activists from Amritsar Vikas Manch for an awareness march conducted in Company Bagh. The activists demanded that government should provide land for setting up Indian Institute of Management (IIM) without wasting any more time.  A high-level Union government team visited Amritsar in the first week of April to select site for the proposed Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in the Holy City. The team including Shashi Prakash Goyal, joint secretary, Union Ministry of Human Resource Development visited Awan village, Sheron Bagha village near Baba Bakala and Bhalla Pind (Central Jail). The land of village Awan & Sheron Bagha village near Baba Bakala  were rejected due to many reasons but team showed keen interest in the land of Centeral Jail which will soon be shifted to Fatahpur. However the government is planning something else for central jail land which will allow more cash to their personal pockets. Government Polytechnic College campus situated near Guru Nanak Dev University has been allotted to IIM by government to commence classes in the new academic session from July 15. However the delay in providing land for IIM may sabotage its setup in Amritsar. Among many basic requirements for IIM, transportation is most important. Amritsar city meets all these requirements as it has rail, road and air connectivity. Many self styled schemes by Punjab government has already caused enough damage to the economy of Amritsar and Punjab.

                Amritsar Vikas Manch appealed to all the political parities as well as NGOs to join hands in this common cause. Aujla was first to join them and said that Amritsar must have developed as a metropolitan but with the last 8 years Badal’s have shifted all the schemes towards their own constituencies. He said that they will no stone unturned to press state government as well as centre for the setup of IIM and AIIMAS in Amritsar. He added that we need to act jointly if we are to free IIM and AIIMS from the clutches of selfish Badal’s who are delaying everything to shift everything to their homes.
