Amritsar, October 17 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The two day National Conference on “Application of Biotechnology for Sustainable development” concluded at DAV College on Saturday with the motivating messages of Missile man and Former President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Addressing the second day of the conference, Dr Rajneesh Arora, Former vice chancellor of Punjab Technical University and Director of Amritsar College of Engineering and Technology delivered his special lecture to mark birth anniversary of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
He also motivated young scientist to preserve the rich scientific heritage of India, which was always appreciated by the former president Dr Kalam. He said that Dr Kalam was not only scientist who contributed immensely to the fields of science and technology but he was also a great soul. He said that the life of Dr Kalam since from his childhood was passionate towards his work, due to that dedication or passion for his work; he could reach at that level.
This special lecture was organized by Vigyan Parishad Panchand in association of DAV College on the occasion of National Conference. Prof HS Walia, Vice Principal of the college along with Dr Rupinder Kaur, Organizing Secretary of National Conference, Dr Daizy Sharma gave a floral welcome to the guests. Dr Adarsh Pal Vig, State President, Vigyan Parishad Panchnand was also present on the occasion. The conference was continued with following session of guest speaker or delegates from the respective parts of the country.
Dr. SS Gosal, Former director (Research) of Punjab Agriculture University delivered his lecture on Plant Tissue Culture and Transformation: Methods and Applications. He spoke about the plant tissue culture in detail and also took some queries of the participants. Besides, Prof. MS Chauhan, from NDRI Karnal delivered a special lecture on Advances in Embryonic Stem cells in Farm Animals. Dr. Daizy Sharma read the Principal’s message and Dr. Vikas Gupta read the Bio-data of the speaker. Stage was conducted by Dr. Ashish Gupta. This program was organized as a special morning session in the ongoing National conference on application of Biotechnology for Sustainable Development. This Conference was led by Dr Rupinder Kaur, Dr. Neeraj Gupta and other colleges of the organizing team.
Dr. Vivek Talwar, Secretary VPP (Pb), Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Secretary (Amritsar) VPP and Dr. Narinder Arora, Office Secretary VPP (Pb) were present to grace the event. During the National Conference on Application of Biotechnology for Sustainable Development, a poster presentation was also held at DAV College, Amritsar. Preeti Vats and Anurag from NDRI bagged first prize, whereas Prof Deepak Wadhawa and Dr Narinder Arora from DAV College Amritsar bagged second prize. Third prize won by Geetika Sharma and Mahavir Joshi, students of Chandigarh University, Gharua. Consolation Prize and Appreciation Prize bagged by Munalal Yadav and Dr Ajay Kumar of DAV College respectively.
