Varun Roojam Takes over as Deputy Commissioner Amritsar

Amritsar,  Feb. 2 (Punjab Post Bureau)- Deputy Commissioner Amritsar Mr. Varun Roojam today said that timely and speedy redressal of public grievances, expeditious processing of revenue cases and timely execution of development projects will remain his top priorities.

Mr. Varun Roojam, a 2004 IAS batch officer, took over as the Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar district on Tuesday. He replaces Mr Ravi Bhagat, IAS, who had been posted as Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana.

The Deputy Commissioner accompanied by other senior officers of administration paid obeisance at Golden Temple and Durgiana Mandir besides paying tributes to martyrs at Jallianwala Bagh after reaching the city.

After assuming the charge of office, Mr. Roojam while interacting with media persons in his office said that he will put in efforts to take the district to new heights of development, growth and success. He also sought cooperation and fulsome support from all sections of society as well as elected representatives for scripting new chapters of development.

Answering a query Mr. Roojam said that his top priority was to ensure speedy redressal of public grievances, timely execution and completion of ongoing and proposed development projects. He said that revenue cases will also witness expeditious processing. He said that the district administration will pay proper and requisite heed to public grievances and issues so that such issues could be sorted out well in time.

Mr. Roojam said that he would assess the major problems being faced by the district and residents and sincerely try to find solution and also for over all development of the district. He said that he will start a tour of border areas including remote villages to take stock of the situation. He said that under this program they will listen to grievances and problems being faced by border residents so that their adequate solution could be made.

It is pertinent to mention here that this was sixth posting of Mr. Roojam as Deputy Commission earlier he had served as Deputy Commissioner of Sri Muktsar Sahib, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali), Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar and Patiala.

Meanwhile, Mr. Roojam was also given a warm welcome by the officers/officials of various departments. Earlier Deputy Commissioner also had a meeting with officers of various departments at Circuit House after taking guard of honour.

Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Mr. Preeti Yadav, IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mr. Tejinder Pal Singh Sandhu, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mr. S.P. Angra, Sub Divisional Magistrates Mr. Rohit Gupta, Mr. H.S. Dhaliwal, Assistant Commissioner Mrs. Amandeep Kaur and Chairman Improvement Trust Mr. Sandeep Rishi.
