
Amritsar, Aug. 15 (Punjab Post Bureau) – On the celebrations of 70th Independence Day, Prof. A.S. Brar, Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University unfurled the National Flag at Guest House Lawns of the University. A large number of teachers, employees and students celebrated this day with great enthusiasm.
Prof. NS Tung, Dean, Academic Affairs welcomed the chief guest and others. Prof. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Registrar presented vote of thanks. Dr. Jagjit Kaur, Director, Youth Welfare coordinated the function. The students of the Music Department of the University under the guidance of Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Head of Music Department presented patriotic songs to mark the occasion.
While congratulating the University fraternity, Prof. A.S. Brar said that this day is result of great sacrifice of our ancestors. He said that the need of hour is to understand our responsibilities towards our youth, society and Nation at large with great dedication and commitment to maintain this freedom. He said that science and technology could help to maintain this freedom, so optimum use of science and technology is needed. No doubt our State is prosperous but there are so many challenges ahead. While expressing his concern over the migration of students to others countries, Vice-Chancellor said that we need to update our syllabi and conduct to compete with international academic system. He said that our teachers should understand their responsibilities towards students and society with great dedication and commitment. He said that our employees should also commit towards their responsibilities only then we can meet international standards. He said that we should be more responsible for ecological balance. Unnecessary wastage of natural resources, especially water, should be avoided and education institutes needed to start campaign to create awareness for this.
