DAV Public School Organises Early Childhood Education Workshop

 Amritsar, Sept. 24 (Punjab Oost Bureau) – DAV Public School, Lawrence Road organised  a one day Early Childhood Education Workshop for the teachers teaching from Nursery to Std II. The workshop was organised under the aegis of DAV Centre  for Academic Excellence, DAV, CMC, New Delhi.

 The workshop was attended by 103 teachers from DAV Public School and DAV Red Cross for  Special Children . Renowned Special Educator, Mr. Dhiraj Bhasin from New Delhi, Ms. Anuradha  Grover and Mrs. Alka Behal from DAV Public  School were the resource persons. Mr.Dhiraj Bhasin is working as a Special  Educator in A.F. G. J.I ,supporting children with special needs for academics, social and other skills. The workshop commenced with  the floral welcome followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and recitation of DAV Gaan.

 The expert resource person, Mr. Dhiraj Bhasin initiated the workshop with interesting  ice – breakers . Sensitising  the teachers on the needs of special children, he stressed upon the preparation of regular and individualised educational plans for children  with special needs. He added that these plans should be implemented in compliance with parents, therapists and other professionals. He  guided teachers to develop innovative techniques and deal with them with love and patience. He also shared with teachers the guidelines to recognise the students with special  needs so that timely help can be provided  to them. He  stressed on co – ordination of special educators with regular teachers and parents for the development of such children .

 Mrs.Anuradha Grover and Mrs.Alka Behal in their  session dealt with the role of Creative Drama in teaching elementary students. It is a proven fact that visual medium has a great impact on the child, so involving theatre in classes can improve their imagination and learning. They took the teachers on a voyage involving fun games, music , role – plays , skits etc for teaching poetry, stories and developing them intellectually, socially and emotionally. It was an interactive workshop where the teachers shared their experiences with the resource persons and discussed their problems in dealing with the special children.

 The workshop was a great success as  many new techniques were shared and the queries of the participants were resolved. Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra, Regional Director Punjab Zone – A  in her message said that inclusive education  must be taken seriously. She advised the teachers to be more compassionate and empathetic towards the progress of children with special needs.Dr. Neera Sharma , Principal of the school thanked the eminent guest , Mr.Dhiraj Bhasin and presented a token of gratitude to him. She said that emphasis should be laid on planning using integrated approach, preparing resources according to the need and exploring different strategies to cater to the needs of special children.
