Amritsar, January 27 (Punjab Post Bureau)- One day symposium on Recent Trends in Chemical Sciences’ was organized by Department of Chemistry of Guru Nanak Dev University. This Special symposium was dedicated to the recent scientific achievements of the University and to the 70th Birthday of Prof. A.S. Brar, Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Prof. Palwinder Singh, the organizing Secretary welcomed the delegates and told that Prof. N. Sathymurthy, Director, IISER, Mohali, Prof. R.N. Mukharjee, Director IISER Kolkata, Prof. V.K. Singh IISER Bhopal, Prof. C.L. Khetarpal, Prof. Ravi Shankar from IIT Delhi and Prof. A.C. Kunwar from IICT Hydrabad delivered the lectures on Recent Trends in Chemical Sciences .
Prof. T.S. Banipal shared the recent achievements of the University, especially the recognition of the University as University with Potential for Excellence by UGC, New Delhi. Prof. R.K. Mahajan shared the achievements of Prof. Brar as a scientist and an administrator and appreciated the contributions of Prof. Brar in creating State of Art research facilities in the University. A large number of faculty from different departments of the University and students participated in this symposium. Prof. C.L. Khetarpal highlighted the use of adopting interdisciplinary approach for making good scientific inventions. He emphasized on the use of functional MRI for solving a large number of world problems especially the religious wars. Prof. RN Mukherjee and Prof. VK Singh, Prof. Sathyamurthy emphasized that students must understand basic concepts of science for making good research carrier. Student and faculty of the University interacted with the speakers.
