GNDU won North Zone Inter-University Hockey (Men) Championship

Amritsar, February 17 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Guru Nanak Dev University organized North Zone Inter-University Hockey (M&W) Championships from 11 to 17 February, 2017 at Guru Hargobind Hockey Astor Turf of the University Campus. More than 55 teams comprising about 900 players of different universities from all over the country participated in this championship. PPN1702201720

Four universities in Men Section were qualified in leagues matches for All India Inter-University Hockey (M) Championship. Guru Nanak Dev University was ranked first with 9 points, Panjab University Chandigarh was ranked second with 4 points, Punjabi University Patiala was ranked third with 3 points and PAU Ludhiana was fourth with 1 point.

During this championship, Four universities in Women Section were qualified in leagues matches for All India Inter-University Hockey (W) Championship i.e. Punjabi University, Patiala was ranked first with 7 points, MDU Rohtak was ranked second with 5 points, Guru Nanak Dev University was ranked third with 4 points and Kurukshetra University was fourth.

Prof. (Dr.) Karanjeet Singh Kahlon, Registrar was the Chief Guest of concluding day function.  He gave away the trophies to the position holder teams.  Dr. H.S. Randhawa, Organzing Secretary & Deputy Director Sports & Head said that Hockey (M&W) Championships were organized with grand success. Brig. Harcharan Singh, Arjuna Awardee (Hockey) was special guest of this occasion.
